Raving with Little Rascals

Big rave little rave

Big Fish Little Fish Events Reviewed By Carolyn Owlett

Ever imagined what it would be like to go raving with your kids? Well as bizarre an idea as that sounds that is exactly what Big Fish Little Fish events offer!

Big Fish Little Fish is a brand new, creative and exciting music and dance party for the post-rave generation of parents and kids: all the fun and freedom of a mini festival, right in the heart of Brixton, Crouch End, Balham and as I experienced, an uber cool warehouse space in Hackney Wick.

The weekend afternoon parties have great music by established club and festival DJs, with a host of extras to ensure maximum fun for parents and kids.

The aim is for adults to enjoy great music, dancing and socialising together with like-minded people and their kids in a safe, fun environment.  I popped down to the recent Halloween themed party with a group of friends and our kids.  This particular event was attended by many of the families from Out With The Family, an organisation that arranges fun days out for LGBT families, and offered a great opportunity for children from different backgrounds to mix and learn more about each other’s lifestyles.

The venue, Shapes, in Hackney Wick was a fantastic choice of space and BFLF had gone out of their way to ensure that the spooky décor and entertainments on offer were equally spectacular.  With fancy dress encouraged it was a chance to meet new friends, listen to great music, hit the dance floor, get creative on an arts and crafts table or simply stuff your face with the terrifying edible treats on offer!  Glow sticks, bubble machines, balloons, colouring tables, soft play, face painting, confetti guns and club visuals were all included within the ticket price and kept kids in a state of euphoria whilst parents were invited to get involved or simply prop themselves up at the fully licensed bar!

With so much on offer in a relatively short amount of time the atmosphere was fully charged with fun and by the end of the two and a half hours we were all fit to drop.  In fact I don’t believe my children have slept as well as they did that night in a long time – which was worth the ticket price alone!

With tickets priced at a mere £4.50 for children and £8.00 for grown ups you would be crazy to miss the November event which is a Superhero themed extravaganza!

FYI – Big Fish Little Fish is particularly targeted at families with younger children (8 and under), but all age groups are welcome as long as there are both adults and children in your party. Adults remain responsible for their children at all times.
