Revolution Makeup: Review

Revolution Makeup has had a fantastic last few months. After endless flawless reviews across beauty blogs, and launching into Superdrug stores nationwide, it is safe to say that Revolution has had a very successful year so far.

When I initially tried the range a few months ago, I really liked their products. For teeny prices, the quality really impressed me. When I was recently asked to sample some of the new pieces from their product range, I was excited to see what they had to offer.

Selfie Palette

You may be wondering why I have taken two photos of the packaging of this eyeshadow palette – the case is actually a hologram – if you turn it one way the case is black, and tilt it another way and the case is pink. The eyeshadows inside this palette are absolutely stunning: 10 neutral shades of matte and shimmer shadows which I know I shall be using on a regular basis. Not quite as soft in texture as my beloved Urban Decay Naked palette, but the colour pay-off is really strong and overall I’m impressed with the quality. Similarly to the Naked palettes, the Selfie palette also comes with a small eyeshadow primer which really improves the look of the shadows, so definitely give this a go.

Lipstick/ Lipgloss duo

I absolutely love the idea of having a lipstick and a lipgloss in one. Sometimes I like to apply my lipstick to create a base colour, and then add depth and shine with a gloss, so it’s really handy to have one product to throw into your handbag. At first I was a bit confused by why the lipstick was red and the gloss was pink, but they actually work really well together when combined.

Eyeshadow

This single eyeshadow really caught my eye when I first saw it. It reminded me of the MAC Mineralise eyeshadows which I adore, so I couldn’t wait to try it. The cream, gold and black blend together really well and it is the perfect product for creating a smokey eye for an evening look. I absolutely love it and hope Revolution make this in a range of colours… I’m sure they will!

Heart-shaped lipstick

I don’t know if I love this lipstick purely because it brings out my inner child, but I really love this product. The berry shade is absolutely perfect for Autumn  – it has a waxy consistency and is matte, making it a must-have for this season. The fact it is heart-shaped too makes it a winner in my books.

Eyeshadow Palette

Although not necessarily the eyeshadow colours I would immediately be drawn towards, this palette really does have some stunning shades. The purple at the top and the turquoise towards the bottom in particular stood out to me. Although the quality of the actually eyeshadows is great, I felt the actual palette let it down – it looks much cheaper than the rest of the product range. I realise Revolution products ARE cheap, but they don’t necessarily have to look like it. Having said that, for younger teens just starting to experiment with makeup, this range of colours is great for playing around with.

The One Foundation

I have to admit that this foundation really surprised me. When you squeeze a little out onto the back of your hand, this foundation is extremely runny – almost a water-like consistency! Not the most practical of textures for a foundation. However, this incredibly light consistency allowed the foundation to be blended into my skin incredibly easily. So long as you’re aware that this foundation is runny (so you don’t end up covered in it), it actually works really well.

When I initially dabbed some onto my hand and blended, I discovered that this particular shade was much too light and cool undertoned for my skin (pink in colour). So much so, that I quickly grabbed my camera and tried to take a picture for my blog. Despite it only taking a matter of seconds before I was able to take a photo, to my surprise, the foundation had completely blended in and somehow now matched my very yellow skin tone!

Overall I was very suprised by this foundation, but very impressed with how well it adapted to my skintone and how easily it blended in.

The One Foundation provides light to medium coverage and feels incredibly soft on the skin.
