REVIEW: Nipa Thai

Nipa Thai is tucked away in the Lancaster London hotel and is one of those restaurants where you need to be in the know, if you happen to be one of the lucky ones… When we arrived, we were greeted in a traditional Thai way by the hostess, and felt a very warm welcome from the minute we walked in, we were seated near the window, giving us a beautiful view of the Italian Gardens in Hyde Park.

For starters we had the Satay Kai, char-grilled marinated chicken served with peanut sauce and cucumber relish. The chicken was cooked well, bursting with flavour. We also had the ‘Por Pia Tod’ Crisp spring rolls with glass noodles, cabbage and crab meat served with homemade sauce. The crab meat was delicious and a much more adventurous choice than choosing the vegetarian option.

For the main I choose the ‘Panag Nuea Rue Moo’ dry and aromatic beef red coconut curry with basil and kaffir lime leaves with jasmine rice. The beef was tender and deliciously fragrant. The egg fried rice, was cooked perfectly, with a nice fluffy texture. I would recommend this dish in a heart beat.

For dessert we had the Banana pudding, dipped in rich banana syrup with toffee sauce (it also comes with ice cream, but being lactose intolerant I opted out and instead choose the warm pineapple pudding instead. Two cakes in one desert dish! Yep that’s what I call heaven. the pineapple pudding was my favourite, I found it to be fresh, soft and moist, with the right amount of sweetness. It definitely left me wanting more!

At Nipa Thai, expect to see a pricey menu, however it’s worth every penny!  You are treated to authentic Thai food and I must say the food here will be beyond your expectation. An easy five stars from us at On In London!

They currently have an ‘Early Bird set menu’ between 5pm-6:30pm. Price: £23, which includes a starter, a main course and a glass of house wine or a bottle of Singha beer. Enjoy!
