Review: Sherlock Holmes Pub

I had previously eaten dinner at the Sherlock Holmes Pub and thoroughly enjoyed their Toad in Hole, so the launch of their reopening was an event I’d looked forward to for weeks. The Sherlock Holmes Pub doesn’t do things by halves! After a gorgeous revamp of the pub, they decided to launch the pub in a specular fashion that the legendary Sherlock Holmes would most certainly approve of.

A murder mystery performed by the talent actors of the Company Upfront. Guests were encouraged to take part and solve the murder. I am proud to say my little team guessed who the killer was and the murder weapon used. This should definitely become a regular event here because it was a lot of fun.

The pub itself is situated a couple minutes’ walk from Trafalgar Square. It has always been a cosy pub which specialises in serving alcohol at decent prices and good old fashioned British Pub food. This luckily hasn’t changed since the revamp. Share platters of food including mini sliders, fish burgers, calamari, chips and Nachos were delicious and just a sample of the delicious food on offer. The revamp itself looks amazing with a new bar area and more Sherlock Holmes memorabilia gracing the walls.

It wouldn’t be right of me not to mention the pride and joy of the Sherlock Holmes Pub. This would have to be the display of Watson’s and Holmes’ living room preserved by Jean Upton and Roger Johnson of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London. They have been the caretakers and housekeepers for nearly 24 years. I was luckily enough to get to speak with both of them during the course of the evening and be granted access into the room, which is an honour few people get to experience.

Prior to the re-launch of the Sherlock Holmes Pub, the place was always packed. Its popularity is sure to only increase given how incredible the upstairs dining room looks now. Make sure you book a table for dinner soon or even just make your way for after work drinks, you’ll be in for a treat.
