The Joint Brixton Village: Review

The Joint

Come Friday night sometimes hitting the tiles isn’t the most appealing option (especially when you can still recall the dodgy hangover of yester-weekend), so another way to fulfil the quota of ‘I’m out on a Friday night, still cool and not an 80 year old woman’ is dinner and a movie

So after like a year of us promising to go to Honest Burger, Athena and I headed to Brixton Village (@Brixton_Village) in search of its tasty wares. Brixton village is pretty jammie, like one of those old tacky markets you get where I live in Cornwall buuuut actually cool.

However we arrived to find a bit of a wait for honest burger.

1 HOUR 30 MINS!

Wha? Takeaway?

20 mins……

Can we wait that long? It was already 8pm…….no.

So we carried on a search for grub. To be honest it was hard to narrow it down, everywhere looked AMAZING!

Due to our indecisive nature we literally chose the first place we came to. This happened to be The Joint.

The Joint

BBQ ribs, chicken, pulled pork, sweetcorn, hush puppies, onion rings. After a day traipsing round castings this was Exactly what I wanted!

So Athena went for the Asian (spicy) BBQ pulled pork bap….

The Joint

annnd I went for ribs, onion rings and sweetcorn.

The Joint

I have to admit the ‘street food’ epidemic that’s sweeping London. So the water was served in little bottles and everything came wrapped in brown paper.

They didn’t give you cutlery which was pretty cool actually, you HAD to eat with your hands!

Verdict!?

Nosh: Athena loved hers, it was spicy, oozy and drippy. Lovely soft bread. Mine was lush. The ribs fell off the bone and were teamed with crunchy onion rings all soaked in sweet and sticky BBQ sauce. The packets the came in were really cute. Have to admit the corn on the cob could have been seasoned a bit more, the actual onion rings were a bit dry too and ours came at quite different times so I had to watch her chomp for a bit. 7/10

Dollar Dollar: Athenas wasn’t too bad, pork bap £7 sit in. Mine was quite pricey, for each 3 things it was £3.50 a pop. But I fancied a bit of a mix. A bit more than I’d usually pay for street style food. 6/10

Vibe: Brixton Village was buzzing! Awesome, everyone happy and having a good time. Would definitely take people back there. 9.5/10

Team Cohesion: I have to admit this was the one thing that let The Joint down a little bit. They were cool in seating us quickly. But when the guy came and took our order I think he was trying to recommend the ribs but it just came across rather abrupt, he chatted briefly later. They seemed a bit more preoccupied with turnaround than the customers. I know this is hard I’ve worked in a restaurant at peak times but I think its pretty important. Also everything was communal (napkins, water?) but it wasn’t that clear. Lastly its cash only so errr don’t turn up with only a fiver….6/10

Conclusion: Head to Brixton Village for tea! It was bloody cool.

After Hours?

Head to The Ritsy and catch a film. If you see The Conjuring or a poop your pants one make sure your housemates are in when you get home……
